Recording from my T8

So - I want to record a sporting event this Friday. It has always been a no in the past. What is wrong with using an HDMI capture box as you would use on an X box or similar?

Any experience or suggestions welcomed.

If you have an HDMI capture box/card and (obviously) have any required permissions from the copyright holder, it should be fine. I think the "no"s in the past were referring to recording a stream without any external hardware, specifically within Kodi itself. You might need to disable hardware acceleration in the video playback client (Kodi/SPMC/DBMC/etc), but screen recording applications may work. Just not purely using Kodi itself.
