Broadband speeds through box.

Has anyone had issues with speeds through the box ?

I've checked my speeds on the PC with thinkbroadbands test and its a stable 19mbs (wired) and been this for years.
If I run the same test using okla through my T8-S, its about 1/2 that (again wired).

I have some issues when I try to watch streams through it but if I watch the same through a wireless connection to a tablet its pretty good.

Anything I should try ?

I think ookla is the main app to go off when doing a speedtest, with a wired connection on my t8s plus v1 I am getting the full hit (and some) I should be 150+ but that drops significantly to less than 30 with pia connected. Am fine with that tho, have you run the same wired test using ookla on your pc?

18.8 with ookla on the PC, so the same.

Any reason spped should drop through the droidbox ?

Have tried changing network cables so I know thats not the issue.

PS what is pia ?

Private internet access vpn, have you tried a different port on your router as you should be getting the same on a wired box as a pc

Find a FAST web server and download a file @stanster via the Browser app. Time it and work out the bandwidth used.

I trust speedtesting apps less and less these days, I tend to partially download a large ISO, let it download a couple hundred of megabytes and see how fast it was. Not perfect, but seen more reliable figures consistently that way.

I'm fine with the values as Ive been getting they are pretty consistent no matter how they are measured (although BT say I should be getting 33 :(), its just the drop off through the T8 that I'm trying to bottom out.

Hi, What type of Ethernet cable are you using, if its Cat5 you won't get the 1000 mbps on your box you need Cat5e or Cat6 to get gigabit, so if your using Cat5 try switching to 5e or 6 cable to see if that makes any difference to your Ethernet speed.

Understood regarding consistency.
However more useful than a speedtest result is the actual download speed achieved with real world usage. Might not be the case here, but definitely had cases in the past where Kodi and normal http downloads were achieving a lot higher than the speedtest app showed. Could have just been a slow time for the servers the speedtest were using, but before focusing too hard on results from speedtest, confirm with real life usage figures.

What is the best Cabling to have between Cat 5E and Cat 6,at the moment i have Cat 5E cabling through Ethernet going
from downstairs router to upstairs to Droidbox in my bedroom,but been having problems with buffering on Live TV,could
this be because of having say 50 metres of cabling going from my router to my bedroom?.Also using a splitter box with a seperate
ethernet cable to my box in my bedroom.May be i should connect Ethernet cable directly to box and not use a splitter box?.I could use
like i have been hearing Homeplugs powerline kits but may be i won't get the right speed using them.

The first thing I would do would be to run a speedtest on the box. (Run several to check stability). If you are constantly getting higher than 7-8mbps then although your connection may be getting throttled due to latency, it will be enough to successfully receive HD streams. If you are still getting buffering then it would point to the hosting servers being the issue.
One other simple check would be to situate the box temporarily nearer to the router, with the shortest direct Ethernet connection possible. Run speed tests again and compare. If buffering continues that would again point to hosting issues.

I don't know. However based on the info sean and i provided and the tests you should carry out first i would advise that if host contention is the issue - which it often is - then buying diamond encrusted krytonite super fibre optic gold plated hyper cable would not help.
Run those speed tests on your existing set up first.

Just done a ookla Speedtest.net speedtest on existing set up,and getting 22mbps download and 6mbps upload,which i think is
quite good.

And certainly enough for hd streaming.
All pointing to host server issues rather than problems with your cabling.
