I am having repeated problems/bugs on my brand new T8-S plus V1 box.
I tried analysing them and will be explaining the bugs I have observed one by one in different posts rather than in one long post.

Bug 1: Repeated restarts on Android mode.
--------------------------------------------------
After I have applied ChrisM's fix for writing to external HDD, I noticed the following happening on the T8-S v1 box every time I switch to android mode. I clearly remember this was not happening before the fix. Of course the fix has solved the problem of not able to write to external HDD. Someone needs to check whether this fix has introduced the below bug or not.

When the box is switched to android mode, the OS will start and the desktop will appear. Initially it says synchronising date and try to locate the City with an animated circle. This will continue until it connects to the wi-fi. Sometimes when the net is slow, this will go on for a long time even after wi-fi connection. At this point the clock is not synced and is showing the default time and date (3:00 AM on 1-1-1970).

On a stronger wi-fi bandwidth, the box synchronises the date and time in a short while and displays the correct date and time. Now it will continue to try to locate the City by network.

At this point the T8-S will restart again and on android desktop after displaying the correct date and time, it will locate correctly my City and display it along with the local weather information.

After this the android desktop remains steadily without any restarts further. I have tried to simulate this bug a number of times and this is repeating like a clock.

I am sure there is no battery inside the box to save the clock information and location like any android phone or tablet. Otherwise the clock information (date and time) and location would have been stored.

Atleast the box's firmware should have saved the clock and location information in memory when the box is switched to standby mode (red light) while still connected to power supply. Only a power outage in this case would make the box to lose the clock and location information.

This would have made the T8-S V1 to boot fast, and be ready for use without any restarts.

I doubt this is a general bug. All android boxes use the same method of getting date/time.
There is a setting in android settings - date and time, to use and sync to network time which is set as the default.
You need to ensure you have a stronger wifi connection or try an Ethernet connection.
You could of course unset the default sync setting if you think it will make things better but I doubt it.
Establishing the "location and weather" is a bit hit and miss (I see this on my box) but should make no difference to your viewing pleasure.
It is a bit strange that your box restarts in the way you describe though.

My wi-fi signal is good as the wi-fi router is only about 5 meters away in the same room without any obstructions. I use other devices like my laptop, tablet and mobile phones in other rooms without any problems. Earlier I was using WDTV in the same location as T8-S and it never lost the signal and got disconnected.

Strange it may seem, it is happening as I have explained above even as I write.

Sometimes while the libary is rebuilding from the HDD, the DBMC will quit to the desktop and I have to start it again to continue rebuiling library.

Another aspect of restarting is random restarts of the box. This is happening while I am watching a movie. Then I have to open the DBMC, find the movie I was watching and track back to the location where it left off. During this restart DBMC is not saving the last location in the movie for resume function. Last night it happened to me twice during a movie of 2 hrs.

I have cleared cache in DBMC app and also done wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset 3 or 4 times. Still these problems continue.

I have seen cases where people get kicked out of dbmc (Kodi) but not total random restarts of the box (I'm assuming involving a soft reboot with android etc reloading). I would be inclined to contact Droidbox support as there may be a fault on the box.

I have disabled the Location setting in Android. Still the system is rebooting after the first boot as explained above. After this reboot I am getting my city name and weather forecast as usual even though I disabled the location setting.

We'd like to set up a flash of the device remotely, details are in the email. Sent to both email accounts referenced and the Amazon system. We're GMT in terms of timing, so official support hours would mean a relatively early start, but we'll work something out if it isn't feasible.

Yes, mine did this with the write to external fix also. Had to use the toothpick hard reset to resolve. Obviously now, i cant write to external again. If its not one thing its another.. Also, 9 times out of 10 when i power off, it reboots instead. Annoying. I`ve just learned to live with the faults!

... just thought, think it was my other box i did the hdd fix with, which still has the reboot fault.. back to using my spare which i didnt flash.. and still cant write to hdd!

Any word on how to fix the re-boot issue after applying the "write to HDD" fix? One of my V1's has this problem and I'm too scared to flash the second.. Thanks.

ChrisM has helped me in downloading a firmware update and I have flashed this version. It solved some of the problems but the constant reboot problem remained.

Then in second week of March, I found an OTA update on the box.
OTA Update 1.0.9 dt 11-03-2017 with kodi 17
LMY47V.20170310 test-keys

I downloaded this version and upgraded the box. Since then the constant reboots have disappeared. Now the box is behaving correctly and is stable. Even my two HDDs are mapping correctly (UDISK1 and UDISK2) most of the times. Android OS is stable.

I got an update of Kodi Krypton 17.1 on google play store, upgraded and tried it with my media collection. I was not happy with the performance of Krypton as the HD videos and Audio were jerky.

I tried the DBMC 16.6.0 and it is performing excellently. I am sticking with DBMC until a stable working version of OpenELEC Kodi is released.

I tried the OpenElec Kodi 16.1 version, but same problems like before. I am waiting for the OTA update of OpenElec Kodi 17 Krypton. Hope it will work fine with my box.

I appreciate the help by ChrisM and Droidbox for continued support of their products.

Yes I have read that post. Thanks. But I wanted to avoid a beta software and wait for the final stable version on OTA.

Until then I will be using DBMC.
